Biodegradable nano composite film based on modified starch-albumin/MgO; antibacterial, antioxidant and structural properties

Seydeh Negar Hosseini et al.

Summary: An antibacterial/antioxidant film based on modified starch and albumin containing magnesium oxide nanoparticles was synthesized. The addition of MgO nanoparticles increased film thickness, reduced moisture content, water solubility, and water vapor permeability, while enhancing antioxidant activity. Films with MgO nanoparticles showed rougher and more heterogeneous surface morphology compared to films without nanoparticles, confirming the presence of MgO in the polymer matrix. Additionally, the films exhibited antimicrobial properties against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus.

Antibacterial activity, optical, and functional properties of corn starch-based films impregnated with bamboo leaf volatile oil

Bin Wang et al.

Summary: Adding bamboo leaf volatile oil (BVO) to corn starch-based films increases thickness and elongation at break, while decreasing moisture content and water-solubility, as well as affecting water vapor permeability and tensile strength. Additionally, BVO supplementation enhances surface roughness and antibacterial effects, increasing opacity of the films for better protection of food. This study forms a theoretical basis for utilizing corn starch-based films as alternative packing biomaterials.

Structural and Film-Forming Properties of Millet Starches: A Comparative Study

Sneh Punia Bangar et al.

Summary: Millets are underutilized and important drought-resistant crops, with starch as their major constituent. The physicochemical, morphological, and film-forming characteristics of millet starches were studied in this research. Different millet sources showed variations in starch properties, with proso millet starch having the highest transparency.
