Low thermal conductivity in GeTe-based thermoelectric materials with additional activated carbon

Jimin Youn et al.

Summary: In this study, porous activated carbon was incorporated in GeTe-based materials to enhance boundary phonon scattering and improve thermal properties without significant deterioration in electrical properties. The lattice thermal conductivity decreased by an average of 13.8% due to the addition of activated carbon, and a maximum dimensionless figure of merit of 1.66 was achieved at 723K for the specific Ge0.9Sb0.1Te composition with additional activated carbon.

Ultralow Lattice Thermal Conductivity and Superhigh Thermoelectric Figure-of-Merit in (Mg, Bi) Co-Doped GeTe

Tong Xing et al.

Summary: This study achieved a superhigh thermoelectric figure-of-merit (zT) of approximately 2.5 at 700 K by regulating the (Mg, Bi) co-doping in GeTe. The research found that (Mg, Bi) co-doping can effectively reduce the lattice thermal conductivity of GeTe compounds and introduce additional electrons to optimize carrier concentration, thereby improving the overall thermoelectric performance of the material.

Optimized Mn and Bi co-doping in SnTe based thermoelectric material: A case of band engineering and density of states tuning

Samuel Kimani Kihoi et al.

Summary: The research demonstrates that co-doping Bi and Mn in SnTe can effectively improve thermoelectric performance, resulting in a large Seebeck value at room temperature, high power factor and zT value at 773K. Furthermore, synergistic optimized doping can increase the hardness of SnTe, offering a suitable means for obtaining thermoelectric materials of superior characteristics without heavy doping.
