Low Free T3 Is Associated With Worse Outcomes in Patients in the ICU Requiring Invasive Mechanical Ventilation

Gary D. Rothberger et al.

Summary: The study found that low T-3 levels were present in 60% of patients in the ICU requiring mechanical ventilation, and that low T-3 levels were associated with higher in-hospital mortality and fewer ventilator-free days.

Thyroid function, renal events and mortality in chronic kidney disease patients: the German Chronic Kidney Disease study

Ulla T. Schultheiss et al.

Summary: The study showed that in patients with mild to moderate CKD, low FT3 syndrome was negatively associated with eGFR, while FT3 levels were positively associated with eGFR. Prospectively, higher FT4 and lower FT3 levels were associated with a higher risk of all-cause mortality, while higher FT3 levels were associated with a lower risk of reaching the composite renal endpoint. Patients with thyroid function abnormalities in CKD are at an increased risk of adverse renal events and all-cause mortality over time.
