Extensive decentralized hydrogen export from the Atlantis Massif

Susan Q. Lang et al.

Summary: The study found widespread export of H-2 across the Atlantis Massif and methane abundances generally low to undetectable in fluids not derived from the concentrated flow of Lost City Hydrothermal Field. The circulation of H-2-rich fluids through tectonically influenced pathways provides stable environmental conditions for early biochemical evolution. These results offer insight into the spatial extent of fluids associated with serpentinization, independent of specific hydrothermal field emissions.

Hydrothermal Organic Geochemistry (HOG) sampler for deployment on deep-sea submersibles

Susan Q. Lang et al.

Summary: The fate of carbon passing through the rocky subseafloor has significant impacts on the global carbon cycle and subseafloor life. The Hydrothermal Organic Geochemistry sampler is designed to collect large volume fluid samples with minimal contamination and can be powered and deployed in real-time. It has successfully collected high purity fluid samples and in situ filters during deep sea expeditions.

Using radium isotopes to constrain the age of saline groundwater, implications to seawater intrusion in aquifers

Yishai Weinstein et al.

Summary: This study presents a method for groundwater dating using radium isotope ratios along the Israeli coast, with implications for seawater intrusion. The results suggest that the age of Pleistocene aquifer groundwater is young, possibly due to recent human activities, while Cretaceous aquifer groundwater is older and may have had a hydraulic connection with the sea.
