Earthquakes in Switzerland and surrounding regions during 2017 and 2018

Tobias Diehl et al.

Summary: This report summarizes the seismicity in Switzerland and surrounding regions in the years 2017 and 2018. The Swiss Seismological Service detected and located a total of 2,182 earthquakes during this period, with one of the strongest events being the Urnerboden earthquake.

Orogen-Parallel Migration of Exhumation in the Eastern Aar Massif Revealed by Low-T Thermochronometry

L. Nibourel et al.

Summary: New and published (U-Th)/He data on zircon, apatite, and zircon fission track ages have provided constraints on the thermal overprint and cooling history of the eastern Aar Massif in Switzerland. The diachrony in the timing of exhumation in the along-strike direction suggests lateral variations in the inherited thickness or density of the accreted European crust. The increase in exhumation rates between 2 Ma and present is attributed to enhanced glacial erosion.
