Association of Urinary and Blood Concentrations of Heavy Metals with Measures of Bone Mineral Density Loss: a Data Mining Approach with the Results from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey

Joao Paulo B. Ximenez et al.

Summary: This study examined the impact of exposure to multiple heavy metals on bone density using NHANES data, and found that age, body mass index, and urinary concentrations of arsenic, cadmium, and tungsten play significant roles in bone mineral density loss. The classification model based on these factors achieved high accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity in predicting bone density loss, highlighting the importance of arsenic, cadmium, and tungsten in overall bone health.

Arsenic, cadmium, and selenium exposures and bone mineral density-related endpoints: The HORTEGA study

Marta Galvez-Fernandez et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the association between arsenic, cadmium, and selenium biomarkers with bone mineral density. Results showed that selenium was associated with BMD-related disease, while arsenic and cadmium were not. The non-linear association of selenium with BMD-related disease included a strong positive association with osteoporosis-related bone fractures risk at higher selenium exposure levels.
