Cross talk between exosomes and pancreatic β-cells in diabetes

Yu Wu et al.

Summary: Exosomes are small vesicles secreted by various cells, containing proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids. They play a crucial role in intercellular communication and have significant implications for the regulation of pancreatic beta-cell function. The communication between exosomes and other cells is important in understanding the pathogenesis and development of diabetes, and has potential for clinical applications.

Extracellular Vesicles as an Emerging Treatment Option for Intervertebral Disc Degeneration: Therapeutic Potential, Translational Pathways, and Regulatory Considerations

Tyler J. DiStefano et al.

Summary: Research has shown that stem cell-derived EVs can slow down the progression of IVDD at the molecular, cellular, and organ levels. The pathophysiological and differentiation state of the EV parent cell affects downstream treatment responses and therapeutic outcomes. These findings support the use of EVs as a promising cell-free strategy for treating IVDD and enhancing endogenous repair.

Exosomes from adipose-derived stem cells and application to skin wound healing

Yang An et al.

Summary: ADSCs-EXOs modulate immune responses and inflammation, promote angiogenesis, accelerate proliferation and re-epithelization of skin cells, and regulate collagen remodelling to inhibit scar hyperplasia in wounds. Compared with ADSCs therapeutics, ADSCs-EXOs have high stability, easy storage, immune system non-rejection, homing effect, and easily controlled dosage. In patients with diabetes mellitus, ADSCs-EXOs can improve fat grafting and promote wound healing.

Comparative analysis of mouse bone marrow and adipose tissue mesenchymal stem cells for critical limb ischemia cell therapy

Pegah Nammian et al.

Summary: The study compared the effects of allogeneic bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs) and adipose tissue mesenchymal stem cells (AT-MSCs) in the treatment of critical limb ischemia (CLI). The results indicated that BM-MSCs had a stronger effect on endothelial cell migration, muscle restructure, functional improvements, and neovascularization in ischemic tissues compared to AT-MSCs. This suggests that BM-MSC transplantation could be a more effective therapy for diseases with insufficient angiogenesis, such as hindlimb ischemia.

Mesenchymal stem cell exosomal tsRNA-21109 alleviate systemic lupus erythematosus by inhibiting macrophage M1 polarization

Rui Dou et al.

Summary: In this study, we found that MSC-exo significantly suppressed M1 markers expression and reduced TNF-alpha and IL-1 beta levels in macrophages, while increasing M2 markers. A total of 243 differently expressed tRFs were identified between MSC-exo treated and untreated macrophage, among which 103 DEtRFs were up-regulated in response to MSC-exo treatment. The tsRNA-21109 was mainly enriched in DNA transcription-related GO function and involved in inflammatory-related pathways.
