Hollow Mesoporous Nanoreactors with Encaged PtSn Alloy Nanoparticles for Selective Hydrogenation of Furfural to Furfuryl Alcohol

Tao Xiao et al.

Summary: This study utilized metal ion-bound polymer micelles to synthesize PtSn alloy nanoparticle-encaged hollow mesoporous nanoreactors, which exhibited significantly enhanced catalytic activity and selectivity for hydrogenation of furfural to furfuryl alcohol, achieving a high yield. The improved catalytic performance can be attributed to the confinement effect of active nanoparticles inside hollow cavities, increasing collision rates between reactants and active nanoparticles, as well as the synergistic effect between Pt and Sn.

Understanding the geometric and electronic factors of PtNi bimetallic surfaces for efficient and selective catalytic hydrogenation of biomass-derived oxygenates

Jingcheng Wu et al.

Summary: Ni-based catalysts show promise for the hydrogenation of furfural to high-value chemicals. By designing PtNi hollow nanoframes, the catalytic performance and electronic structure can be modulated, leading to high selectivity for the hydrogenation of furfural. The PtNi HNFs catalyst demonstrates excellent catalytic performance with 3D hierarchical structure and synergistic electronic effects, achieving high yields of furfuryl alcohol under mild conditions.
