Achieving brittle-intermetallic-free and high-conductivity aluminum/copper joints using nickel-phosphorus coatings

Nannan Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, Ni-P coatings were deposited on aluminum to eliminate the detrimental Cu-Al IMC, improve welding shape, and inhibit porosity and cracks. The coatings obstruct Cu-Al interdiffusion, resulting in CuAl2-free interfaces, and transform into a eutectic microstructure composed of nanocrystalline Ni and fine Ni3P grains through solid-state transformation. The use of Ni-P coatings led to a 140% improvement in lap-shear peak load, a 25-fold increase in lap-shear maximum elongation, and an 84% reduction in electrical resistance in joints.

Novel photovoltaic ribbon technology: Interfacial behavior of In-50Sn alloy ribbon without metal matrix under electrothermal effects and chlorine corrosion

Kuan-Jen Chen et al.

Summary: An In-50Sn alloy ribbon without a metal matrix was developed as a substitute for traditional dipped-photovoltaic ribbons, showing good interfacial performance in Si solar cells with Ag electrodes. The module structure maintained stable IMC and series resistance levels after aging tests, with good corrosion resistance and bond strength achieved through reduced Ag paste usage on the Si solar substrate. The PV ribbon without a metal matrix limited IMC growth, resulting in a module with a long operating lifetime.
