Gold Nanoparticles Promote the Bone Regeneration of Periodontal Ligament Stem Cell Sheets Through Activation of Autophagy

Yangheng Zhang et al.

Summary: The study showed that AuNPs can enhance osteogenesis of PDLSC sheets by promoting bone-related protein expression and mineralization, with 45-nm AuNPs being more effective than 13-nm ones. Additionally, AuNPs were found to activate the autophagy pathway to promote differentiation and enhance bone regeneration in ectopic models. These findings suggest a potential AuNP-based pretreatment strategy for improving CST in bone repair and regeneration.

PEGylated gold nanoparticles promote osteogenic differentiation in in vitro and in vivo systems

Yibo Zhang et al.

Summary: This study comprehensively evaluated the effects of PEGylated gold nanoparticles of different sizes on osteogenic differentiation, demonstrating excellent biocompatibility and size-dependent promotion of osteogenic effects on various cell types. The Wnt/beta-catenin signaling pathway was found to play a crucial role in GNPs-induced osteogenic differentiation. Further in vivo testing showed that 45-nm GNPs conjugated with PEG-hydrogel significantly stimulated bone regeneration in rabbits with femur defects, indicating promising applications for clinical translation.

3D printed PCL/GelMA biphasic scaffold boosts cartilage regeneration using co-culture of mesenchymal stem cells and chondrocytes: In vivo study

Yanyan Cao et al.

Summary: Cartilage injury is difficult to self-repair, but a biphasic scaffold consisting of cells-encapsulated GelMA hydrogel and macroporous PCL scaffold filled with cells-encapsulated GelMA hydrogel shows promising results for cartilage regeneration, especially when co-cultured with BMSCs and chondrocytes. The synergistic effect of the two cell types induces chondrogenesis and TGF-beta(3) supplement further enhances cartilage regeneration. In both in vitro and in vivo studies, the PCL/GelMA biphasic scaffold demonstrates excellent cartilage regenerative capability, paving a new way for clinical cartilage repair.
