Interface formation and bonding control in high-volume-fraction (TiC+TiB2)/Al composites and their roles in enhancing properties

Hong-Yu Yang et al.

Summary: In this study, (TiC+TiB2)/Al composites fabricated using the Al-Ti-B4C system showed significantly enhanced mechanical properties compared to TiC/Al composites, attributed to the improved interface bonding strength and energy dissipation of crack propagation. The reduction in reaction heat, improved crystallographic match, and enhanced adhesion work between ceramic particles and matrix in the (TiC+TiB2)/Al composites contributed to the formation of enhanced interfaces, providing a new idea for the design and control of interfaces in high-volume-fraction ceramic-metal composites.

The corrosion behavior of Ti6Al4V fabricated by selective laser melting in the artificial saliva with different fluoride concentrations and pH values

Hongwei Zhang et al.

Summary: The critical NaF concentrations for both SLM and wrought Ti6Al4V are similar, and the levels of aluminum and fluoride decrease with higher NaF concentrations and pH values. The SLM sample demonstrates significantly worse corrosion resistance compared to the wrought Ti6Al4V in almost all test solutions.

Passive Layers and Corrosion Resistance of Biomedical Ti-6Al-4V and β-Ti Alloys

Patrizia Bocchetta et al.

Summary: Titanium and its alloys are favored for biomedical metallic implants due to their high specific strength, good corrosion resistance, and biocompatibility. Ti-6Al-4V alloy is commonly used in practical applications, but recent studies have shown limitations in biocompatibility due to toxic elements such as Al and V. Novel beta-Ti alloys containing biocompatible beta-stabilizers are being studied as potential alternatives to Ti-6Al-4V with similar performances.

Corrosion behavior and mechanism of selective laser melted Ti35Nb alloy produced using pre-alloyed and mixed powder in Hank's solution

P. Qin et al.

Summary: This study investigated the corrosion behavior and mechanism of SLM Ti35Nb separately processed with mixed powder and pre-alloyed powder in Hank's solution. Both samples showed similar corrosion behavior, but the pre-alloyed powder had more stable oxide films, while distinct oxide films formed on the TiNb and Nb regions in the mixed powder.

Summary: This study investigated the processability of an advanced aluminum alloy, AlCu-TiB2, using selective laser melting (SLM) and analyzed the correlation between microstructure and mechanical properties of the specimens. It was found that adjusting the laser power and exposure time can achieve high relative density and uniform microstructure, resulting in expected mechanical properties.
