Network offloading policies for cloud robotics: a learning-based approach

Sandeep Chinchali et al.

Summary: This paper addresses the issue of cloud offloading in robotics, proposing a solution using deep reinforcement learning to enhance robot vision task performance while minimizing the cost of cloud communication. The strategy improves vision task performance by 1.3 to 2.3 times compared to benchmark offloading strategies, enabling robots to significantly improve on-board sensing accuracy with limited cloud communication cost.

Planning in Dynamic and Partially Unknown Environments

Kristina Miller et al.

Summary: Motion planning in dynamic and partially unknown environments poses challenges that require both perception and control components. This study focuses on proposing a solution for the control component while abstracting perception cleanly. By leveraging a combination of reachability analysis and Mixed Integer Linear Programming, the algorithm can synthesize verifiably safe reference trajectories with subsecond synthesis performance for nonlinear vehicle models in scenarios with numerous obstacles on standard hardware.

Zero-Error Tracking for Autonomous Vehicles Through Epsilon-Trajectory Generation

Clint Ferrin et al.

Summary: This control method presents a way to achieve asymptotic convergence to a time-indexed trajectory for vehicles with first-order nonholonomic constraints by controlling a fixed point in front of the vehicle. By reformulating a sufficiently smooth trajectory for a new reference point, steady state error can be eliminated so that the vehicle asymptotically converges to the original trajectory. The evaluation of the control method considers the effects of errors due to estimation and initial conditions.
