Mn-Rich MnSb2Te4: A Topological Insulator with Magnetic Gap Closing at High Curie Temperatures of 45-50 K

Stefan Wimmer et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that p-type MnSb2Te4, previously considered topologically trivial, can become a ferromagnetic topological insulator with a few percent Mn excess, showing record Curie temperature and out-of-plane magnetic anisotropy. Experimental results reveal phenomena such as ferromagnetic hysteresis, a 2D Dirac cone, out-of-plane spin polarization, and bandgap closing at the Curie temperature.

Multiple Magnetic Topological Phases in Bulk van der Waals Crystal MnSb4Te7

Shuchun Huan et al.

Summary: In this study, we reveal that MnSb4Te7 is a magnetic topological system with versatile topological phases that can be manipulated by both carrier doping and magnetic field. This introduces a new magnetic topological material with different topological phases that are highly tunable by carrier doping or magnetic field.

Direct evidence of ferromagnetism in MnSb2Te4

Wenbo Ge et al.

Summary: We used cryogenic magnetic force microscopy to image the ferromagnetic domains in the van derWaals single crystal MnSb2Te4 from two sources. The magnetic field dependence of the domains shows weak pinning of domain walls in MnSb2Te4, resulting in a negligibly small magnetic hysteresis loop. The temperature dependence of the domain contrast reveals mean field behavior, consistent with bulk magnetization measurements.

Summary: By utilizing Differential Thermal Analysis (DTA) and Powder X-ray Diffraction (PXRD) techniques, the phase diagram of the MnTe-Sb2Te3 system has been established, revealing two new ternary layered van der Waals compounds. Both compounds have significant homogeneity ranges and decompose via peritectic reactions.
