Orbital Angular Momentum (OAM) Carried by Asymmetric Vortex Beams for Wireless Communications: Theory, Experiment and Current Challenges

Baoluo Yan et al.

Summary: The article introduces an asymmetric spatial mode for optical communications, which increases channel capacity through orthogonal multiplexing. Higher detection probabilities of high-order modes are observed, and an efficient scheme for generating multicasting and multiplexing OAM modes is proposed. Further investigations are needed for critical issues like mode mismatching, and exploring more spatial multiplexing approaches may lead to new prospects for future communications systems.

Optical trapping of particles by radiation forces of doughnut laser beams in the Rayleigh regime

N. Nossir et al.

Summary: This study investigates the radiation forces exerted on a dielectric sphere by Generalized Humbert-Gaussian beams after propagating through a thin lens optical system in the Rayleigh scattering approximation. The impact of the optical parameters of the beams on radiation forces is examined in detail, showing that these beams can trap particles with higher refractive index. The study also discusses the conditions of trapping stability.
