Kirschsteiniothelia thailandica sp. nov. (Kirschsteiniotheliaceae) from Thailand

Ya-Ru Sun et al.

Summary: A new species of Kirschsteiniothelia, Kirschsteiniothelia thailandica sp. nov., was discovered on decayed twigs of Ficus microcarpa collected at the Garden of Medicinal Plants in Chiang Rai, Thailand. Phylogenetic analysis showed that this new isolate is distinct from other known species in the genus.

Molecular phylogeny and morphology reveal three novel species of Curvularia (Pleosporales, Pleosporaceae) associated with cereal crops and weedy grass hosts

Himashi S. Ferdinandez et al.

Summary: This study identified three new species of Curvularia through multi-locus phylogenetic analyses based on specimens collected from cereal and weedy grass hosts in Sri Lanka. Morphological descriptions and illustrations were provided for the newly described taxa. The research highlights the importance of extensive collections and molecular identifications of tropical hyphomycetous fungi associated with cereals, fibre crops and weeds for effective disease management and surveillance measures.

Introducing a new pleosporalean family Sublophiostomataceae fam. nov. to accommodate Sublophiostoma gen. nov.

Sinang Hongsanan et al.

Summary: Collections of microfungi in Thailand have discovered a new species morphologically similar to Lophiostoma, but distinguished based on multi-locus phylogeny. A new genus, Sublophiostoma, is introduced to accommodate this taxon. A new family, Sublophiostomataceae, is also introduced to classify this distinct clade within Pleosporales.

Towards incorporating asexually reproducing fungi in the natural classification and notes for pleomorphic genera

N. N. Wijayawardene et al.

Summary: This paper focuses on asexually reproducing fungi and particularly on pleomorphic genera. It also mentions unlinked genera without molecular data being listed as Ascomycota genera incertae sedis, suggesting the importance of DNA analysis to uncover new fungal lineages.
