Large Polyhedral Oligomeric Silsesquioxane Cages: The Isolation of Functionalized POSS with an Unprecedented Si18O27 Core

Mathilde Laird et al.

Summary: This study reports an unprecedented, single isomer styryl-functionalized T-18 POSS, which has been unambiguously identified among nine possible isomers using multinuclear solution NMR, MALDI-MS, FTIR, and computational studies. A ring-strain model was developed to predict the speciation of non-equivalent Si atoms in other T-n compounds, demonstrating its general applicability and usefulness for predicting Si-atom environments.

Synthesis of Silsesquioxanes with Substituted Triazole Ring Functionalities and Their Coordination Ability

Monika Rzonsowska et al.

Summary: This study presents a synthesis method for a series of silsesquioxanes bearing substituted triazole ring(s), utilizing the copper(I)-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition process. By investigating the coordinating properties of these compounds towards selected transition metals, such as Pd(II), Pt(II), and Rh(I), four SQs-based coordination compounds were successfully formed in high yields.

Double-Decker Silsesquioxanes Self-Assembled in One-Dimensional Coordination Polymeric Nanofibers with Emission Properties

Julia Duszczak et al.

Summary: Researchers have developed an effective protocol for synthesizing novel double-decker silsesquioxanes and utilizing them as nanocage ligands to promote the formation of one-dimensional coordination polymeric nanofibers with transition metals ions. The ultraviolet-promoted and reversible E-Z isomerization can be exploited to tune the emission properties, making these complexes promising candidates for applications in materials chemistry. This is the first example of 1D coordination polymers bearing DDSQ-based nodes with TM ions.
