Feline sporotrichosis in Asia

Hock Siew Han et al.

Summary: Sporothrix schenckii sensu lato is a species complex with only certain strains identified to cause disease in cats. Feline sporotrichosis in Asia is mainly reported from Malaysia, with a need for further molecular epidemiological studies due to lack of data. The prognosis for the disease is guarded to poor due to various factors such as cost, treatment course, zoonotic potential, and low susceptibility to antifungals.

Isabella Dib Ferreira Gremiao et al.

Summary: This guideline, created by a national technical group organized by the Working Group on Sporothrix and Sporotrichosis of ISHAM, aims to provide information on clinical-epidemiological aspects of feline sporotrichosis, as well as a literature review. It also includes practical information on diagnosis and treatment, as well as guidance on prevention and control of S. brasiliensis transmission.

Microbial Phagocytic Receptors and Their Potential Involvement in Cytokine Induction in Macrophages

Yan Lin Fu et al.

Summary: Phagocytosis is a crucial process for the uptake of large particulate matter by specialized cells in the body, enabled by cell surface receptors. Professional phagocytes, including macrophages, neutrophils and dendritic cells, play a key role in innate immunity through engaging target cells for destruction and recycling in phagosomes. Macrophages, in particular, produce a variety of cytokines that modulate the inflammatory response to microbes.
