Global Tuberculosis Report 2020-Reflections on the Global TB burden, treatment and prevention efforts

Jeremiah Chakaya et al.

Summary: The global TB report for October 2020 highlights slow progress in TB control efforts and the need to ramp up screening and diagnostic test services. Key drivers of TB, including undernutrition, poverty, diabetes, tobacco smoking, and household air pollution, must be addressed to achieve WHO 2035 TB care and prevention targets. Global focus is needed on the development of new vaccines for TB using new technological methods.

Advances in host-based screening for compounds with intracellular anti-mycobacterial activity

Neeraja Subhash et al.

Summary: Intracellular pathogens interact closely with host systems, where new host-origin targets can be targeted as host-directed therapeutics. Efforts to find new anti-TB drugs should consider both bacterial and host perspectives. Host environments play a significant role in pathogenesis mechanisms and should be actively considered in these efforts.

Cellular Internalization and Inhibition Capacity of New Anti-Glioma Peptide Conjugates: Physicochemical Characterization and Evaluation on Various Monolayer- and 3D-Spheroid-Based in Vitro Platforms

Zsuzsa Baranyai et al.

Summary: Peptide conjugates of SynB3 cell-penetrating peptide and Tuftsin derivatives were developed to enhance selectivity and penetration of anticancer agents for brain malignancies. SynB3-tuftsin tandem compounds combined the beneficial properties of these peptides and showed high efficacy against glioblastoma cells. The conjugates demonstrated superior penetration profiles in ex vivo and in vitro BBB models.
