Numerical study of thermomechanical behaviour of reinforced concrete beams with and without textile reinforced concrete (TRC) strengthening: Effects of TRC thickness and thermal loading rate

Najib Douk et al.

Summary: This study investigates the thermomechanical behavior of steel-reinforced concrete beams strengthened with textile reinforced concrete under mechanical and fire loads. It examines the effect of TRC thickness on the behavior of RC beams, as well as models the behavior of RC beams strengthened with TRC under different heating rates. The results clarify the thermomechanical contributions of TRC to RC structural elements in fire scenarios.

Towards Sustainable Concrete Composites through Waste Valorisation of Plastic Food Trays as Low-Cost Fibrous Materials

Hossein Mohammadhosseini et al.

Summary: This study confirms that using waste plastic food trays as fiber materials in concrete can enhance the tensile and flexural strengths, despite a slight adverse effect on workability and compressive strength. By adding WPFT fibers, the impact resistance and energy absorption performance of concrete significantly improved.

Performance evaluation of reinforced concrete beams with corroded web reinforcement: Experimental and theoretical study

Abdulaziz Alaskar et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of corroded web reinforcement on the shear behavior of reinforced concrete beams. It was found that beams with higher corrosion levels or using deformed steel stirrups exhibited lower shear capacities. Theoretical models considering the effects of corrosion of the stirrups showed a good correlation with the experimental shear strengths of the beam specimens.

Performance of axially loaded masonry columns confined using textile reinforced concrete (TRC) added with short fibers

Tong Li et al.

Summary: This study experimentally investigated the compressive behavior of masonry piers confined with Textile-reinforced high ductile concrete (TRHDC) jacket, compared to a reference set of fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) confined columns. It was found that TRHDC jacket can change the failure mode of columns and improve compressive strength, ultimate strain, and energy absorption capacity. Predictions from analytical models were in good agreement with experimental data, showing potential for engineering applications.

Performance Evaluation of Sustainable Concrete Comprising Waste Polypropylene Food Tray Fibers and Palm Oil Fuel Ash Exposed to Sulfate and Acid Attacks

Hossein Mohammadhosseini et al.

Summary: The study found that adding waste plastic food tray fibers and palm oil fuel ash to concrete reduced its workability but improved its compressive strength. POFA concrete showed higher long-term compressive strength compared to OPC concrete. The positive interaction between POFA and WPFT fibers reduced crack formation and spalling of concrete samples exposed to acid and sulfate solutions.
