Strain rate-dependent deformation behaviors of multi-layer carbon fiber reinforced polymer laminates

Zhichao Ma et al.

Summary: This study investigates the micro failure behaviors of carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) laminates under different strain rates and orientations. Significant differences in deformation behaviors and strength characteristics were determined, revealing a low-high-low variation tendency of Young's modulus and strength as a function of strain rate. A unified model consisting of four deformation modes was proposed to analyze the complexity of the CFRP laminates failure mechanism.

Comparison of progressive damage between thermoset and thermoplastic CFRP composites under in-situ tensile loading

Pavan S. Rao et al.

Summary: The in-situ damage progression of three carbon fibre reinforced cross-ply composite systems under tensile loading was examined, showing different damage mechanisms between different systems. X-ray computed tomography scans were carried out to examine porosity in the material systems, and the effect of autoclave treatment on materials manufactured by LATP was also investigated.
