Effect of annealing temperature on structural, optical, and photocatalytic properties of titanium dioxide nanoparticles

Dorah Kawira Muthee et al.

Summary: Titanium dioxide nanoparticles were prepared by sol-gel technique and annealed to study the impact of annealing temperature on physical, morphological, photocatalytic, and optical properties. XRD measurements showed a gradual phase change from anatase to rutile with increased annealing temperature. Crystal and grain size increased with temperature, reducing specific surface area, while bandgap decreased with higher temperature. Photocatalytic activity was higher in the anatase/rutile mixed-phase compared to single anatase or rutile phase.

Titanium dioxide nanomaterials in electrocatalysis for energy

Alessandro Lavacchi et al.

Summary: In the last two decades, researchers have developed various methods to obtain high surface area nanostructured titanium dioxide, which has been used as electrode supports in electrochemical energy conversion and storage devices. The unique properties of titanium dioxide, including stability, electronic conductivity, and synergistic effects with metal catalysts, make it appealing for these applications. Titanium dioxide nanomaterials can be divided into powders and embedded nanoarchitectures, with a focus on fuel cells, electrolysis, and carbon dioxide electroreduction as the latest applications explored. Further research is needed to support the exploration and utilization of titania in electrocatalysis for energy.
