Construction of Fe embedded graphene nanoshell/carbon nanofibers catalyst for catalytic cracking of biomass tar: Effect of CO2 etching

Jiaxing Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, a carbon-based metal catalyst was prepared using sawdust as raw material, and Fe embedded graphene nanoshell/carbon nanofibers catalyst was prepared by impregnation and carbothermal reduction in CO2 atmosphere. During CO2 etching and FeCl3 catalysis, a structure was formed where carbon nanofibers/graphene shells wrapped metallic iron deposited on the porous carbon support.

Application of calcium oxide/ferric oxide composite oxygen carrier for corn straw chemical looping gasification

Jianjun Hu et al.

Summary: The study used CaO/Fe2O3 as a composite oxygen carrier for biomass chemical looping gasification (CLG), showing that adding CaO can significantly improve the quality of syngas and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Various factors such as the ratio of Fe2O3 to CaO, steam to biomass, and oxygen carrier to biomass were found to affect the syngas composition, with temperature also playing a significant role in CLG gas yield. The possible reaction mechanism suggested that variations in Ca may be the main factor in gas composition fluctuation.

Syngas Production in a 1.5 kWth Biomass Chemical Looping Gasification Unit Using Fe and Mn Ores as the Oxygen Carrier

Oscar Condori et al.

Summary: Biomass chemical looping gasification (BCLG) utilizes lattice oxygen from an oxygen carrier for high-quality syngas production without CO2 emissions. The main operating variables investigated in this study were the oxygen/biomass ratio (lambda), gasification temperature, and steam/biomass ratio (S/B). The results showed that the lambda significantly affected the process performance and syngas quality, while the temperature and S/B ratio had a minor impact.

Microwave-Assisted Plasma Catalytic Conversion of Tar to Hydrocarbon Products

M. Tsodikov et al.

Summary: The rapid conversion of tar from the Nizhnekamsk Oil Refinery in the plasma catalytic mode was studied using microwave radiation, achieving a maximal tar conversion rate of 85%. Analysis by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and IR spectroscopy showed that the conversion products mainly consist of alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, and alkyl-substituted aromatic hydrocarbons. The study also found that the solid iron-containing residue separated from the tar hydrogenation products exhibited increased ability to absorb MWR and can be reused.

Modified nickel-based catalysts for improved steam reforming of biomass tar: A critical review

Ningbo Gao et al.

Summary: The gasification of biomass produces syngas for electricity generation and fuels production, but tar generated as a by-product causes issues. Catalytic steam reforming with nickel-based catalysts can convert tar into more syngas efficiently. Research has focused on modifying nickel-based catalysts to improve performance in steam tar reforming.

Chemical looping catalytic gasification of biomass over active LaNixFe1-xO3 perovskites as functional oxygen carriers

Jingchun Yan et al.

Summary: Oxygen carriers (OCs) with perovskite structure are attracting interest due to their high reactivity and redox tunability. LaNixFe1-xO3 perovskite OCs were synthesized in this study and tested for algae chemical looping gasification. LN5F5 showed stable performance and high syngas yield, making it a promising OC for biomass gasification. The study found that LN5F5 exhibited continuous high yield of syngas in the first 5 redox cycles.
