Nonlinear vibration isolation via a compliant mechanism and wire ropes

Mu-Qing Niu et al.

Summary: This research proposes a novel nonlinear isolator with negative stiffness compliant mechanism and wire ropes with hysteretic damping, achieving a lower resonant frequency and smaller resonant amplitude, which is more suitable for broad band vibration isolation and fewer harmonics. However, the wire ropes improve high-frequency isolation efficiency at the cost of a higher resonant frequency.

Applications of Nonlinearity in Passive Vibration Control: A Review

P. S. Balaji et al.

Summary: This review discusses the application of nonlinearity in passive vibration control devices, showing how nonlinearity is applied and beneficial in the systems. Nonlinearity has also been successfully applied in energy harvesting devices, nonlinear energy sinks, and metamaterials for vibration isolation and energy harvesting purposes. The implementation of nonlinearity in engineering systems has shown significant benefits over linear systems.

A ring vibration isolator enhanced by shape memory pseudoelasticity

Ze-Qi Lu et al.

Summary: The study explores the performance enhancement of vibration isolation of a circular ring using a shape memory alloy wire rope. The numerical simulations support the analytical results, showing that the SMA composed of NiTi19/NiTi1 is optimal for the ring isolation design. The developed ring beam vibration isolator reduces the transmissibility around the resonance frequency and performs better at high frequencies for appropriate types of SMA.

A novel lever-type vibration isolator with eddy current damping

Bo Yan et al.

Summary: This study proposes a lever-type vibration isolator with eddy current damping, which can broaden the isolation band by adjusting the lever ratio and improve the vibration suppression performance. The effects of lever ratio, tip mass, material properties, geometric parameters, and excitation amplitude on vibration isolation performance are analyzed. ECD can further enhance vibration suppression in the resonance region, while transmissibility tends to stabilize in the isolation region with increasing lever ratio.

An improved quasi-zero stiffness isolator with two pairs of oblique springs to increase isolation frequency band

Feng Zhao et al.

Summary: A new improved QZS isolator is proposed in this study, utilizing two pairs of oblique springs to significantly increase the isolation frequency band by reducing static deflection. The new isolator introduces novel formulations for stiffness and displacement transmissibility and the benefits of the design are verified through experiments and theoretical comparisons.

Nonlinear dynamic response of a wire rope isolator: Experiment, identification and validation

Andrea Salvatore et al.

Summary: The experimental and numerical investigation on the vibration isolation capability of a nonlinear wire rope spring shows that the device exhibits distinct nonsymmetrical behavior under compression and tension, leading to a significant reduction in transmissibility coefficient across a broad frequency range. The proposed phenomenological model accurately predicts the nonlinear dynamic response and is in good agreement with experimental results.
