Investigating the Effects of Pore-Structure Characteristics on Porosity and Absolute Permeability for Unconventional Reservoirs

Fengpeng Lai et al.

Summary: This study characterizes pore structure and evaluates its impact on porosity and permeability for unconventional reservoirs. An analytic expression of absolute permeability was proposed and validated through rate-controlled mercury injection experiments, demonstrating a strong correlation between permeability and pore-throat ratio.

Laboratory Characterization of Shale Oil Storage Behavior: A Comprehensive Review

Tong Wu et al.

Summary: The importance of shale oil storage behavior in production was discussed in the review, which also evaluated shale mineralogy, pore structure, and oil properties. It was found that organic matter has the highest adsorption capacity for oil and a relationship between pore size and oil molecular size ratio and free oil to adsorbed oil ratio was suggested. Accurate experimental methods and theoretical models on free oil and adsorbed oil characterization were identified as areas needing further research in the future.

Microscale comprehensive evaluation of continental shale oil recoverability

Jin Xu et al.

Summary: This paper focuses on the key parameters of shale oil reservoirs in four major basins in China and reveals their effectiveness, oil content, crude oil movability, and fracability under identical experimental conditions. The research overcomes limitations of conventional analysis methods, develops evaluation methods for different types of shale oil resources, and provides insights through comparative analysis of the four major basins.
