Summary: Fourier transform infrared micro-spectroscopy is a valuable tool for studying changes in human cells after exposure to ionizing radiation, and recent attention has been focused on its use in cells exposed to proton beams. The use of low-e-substrates slides for cell culture has been proposed to simplify and speed up the irradiation and measurements phases. Analyzing spectra obtained in transflection geometry reveals significant changes in DNA, lipids, and protein components of cells.
