Microwave-assisted in situ growth of VO2 nanoribbons on Ni foam as inexpensive bifunctional electrocatalysts for the methanol oxidation and oxygen evolution reactions

T. V. M. Sreekanth et al.

Summary: In this study, low-cost vanadium oxide (VO2) electrocatalysts with nanoribbon-like structure (NRBs) were successfully grown on Ni foam at different temperatures using a microwave-assisted method. The VO-180 electrocatalyst showed superior performance in both MeOH oxidation reaction (MOR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) compared to VO-140 and VO-220, with higher specific surface area and electron transfer rate. The as-synthesized VO-180 electrocatalyst exhibited excellent MOR and OER activity and stability, indicating potential applications in direct MeOH fuel cells.

Structure, Luminescence, and Magnetic Properties of Crystalline Manganese Tungstate Doped with Rare Earth Ion

Jae-Young Jung et al.

Summary: The crystalline MnWO4 with enhanced magnetic and luminescent properties was synthesized by adding dysprosium ions during the preparation process. Varying the amount of rare earth ions affected the magnetic and luminescent characteristics, with a decrease in luminescent properties beyond 0.1 mol.%. Aligning MnWO4 particles with a magnetic field in a composite material resulted in stronger luminescence compared to unaligned particles. As a result, the synthesized MnWO4 powder with rare earth ion addition can be utilized as a phosphor and photosensitizer.
