A facile design of EGF conjugated PLA/gelatin electrospun nanofibers for nursing care of in vivo wound healing applications

Fei Xu et al.

Summary: Nano/microfiber structures made from biodegradable polymers, such as poly(lactic acid) (PLA)/gelatin (GEL) conjugated with epidermal growth factor (EGF), show potential for biomedical applications, particularly in diabetic wound healing. This study evaluated the properties of PLA/GEL nanofiber scaffolds conjugated with EGF, including their morphological, mechanical, antibacterial, and wound healing activities. The results demonstrated that the nanofiber PLA/GEL conjugated with EGF exhibited superior properties and could be a promising material for nursing care of wound healing.

Swelling kinetics and rheological behaviour of microwave synthesized poly(acrylamide-co-acrylic acid) hydrogels

Tamara Erceg et al.

Summary: In this study, poly(acrylamide-co-acrylic acid) hydrogels were synthesized using a one-step microwave method, which showed irregular cellular and porous structures. Swelling behavior of the hydrogels varied at different pH values and temperatures, indicating potential applications in fields such as drug delivery and tissue engineering. The rheological assessment of the hydrogels revealed a dominant elastic character and a three-dimensional internal structure.

Combining electrospinning with hot drawing process to fabricate high performance poly (L-lactic acid) nanofiber yarns for advanced nanostructured bio-textiles

Shaohua Wu et al.

Summary: In this study, novel nanofiber yarns were developed by combining nanostructure with biodegradability and strong mechanical properties through a hot drawing process using poly(L-lactic acid) (PLLA). The thermally drawn PLLA nanofiber yarns showed superior fibrous structure, enhanced crystallinity, and excellent mechanical performances, and promoted the adhesion, alignment, proliferation, and differentiation of human adipose derived mesenchymal stem cells compared to untreated PLLA nanofiber yarns. The nanofiber yarns were further processed into various tissue scaffolds with adjustable properties, demonstrating their potential for advanced biotextiles in surgical implant applications.
