Hydrogen and Carbon Nanotubes from Pyrolysis-Catalysis of Waste Plastics: A Review

Paul T. Williams

Summary: Europe generates over 27 million tonnes of waste plastics annually, which is considered a significant potential resource. Research has focused on producing liquid fuels and aromatic chemicals through pyrolysis-catalysis, as well as hydrogen production via pyrolysis coupled with catalytic steam reforming. Waste plastics have also been explored as a source for carbon nanotubes.

Facile and environmentally friendly synthesis of ultramicroporous carbon spheres: A significant improvement in CVD method

Saeed Khodabakhshi et al.

Summary: A new environmentally friendly method for synthesizing ultramicroporous carbon spheres was developed using a simple one-step non-catalytic CVD process at 800 degrees C. The carbon spheres exhibited high CO2 capture capacity and good regeneration performance.

Oxidative synthesis of yellow photoluminescent carbon nanoribbons from carbon black

Saeed Khodabakhshi et al.

Summary: Nitric acid treatment of Black Pearls 2000 leads to the synthesis of micrometer long multilayer carbon nanoribbons with high oxygen content and nitrogen doping, while treatment of other grades of carbon black yields irregular graphene oxide fragments or carbon quantum dots. Nitric acid treatment of carbon materials is shown to be a powerful tool for synthesizing technology-relevant carbon nanoribbons, unlocking the potential of applying this straightforward oxidation chemistry to inexpensive and commercially available carbon black.
