Citric acid mediated green synthesis of copper nanoparticles using cinnamon bark extract and its multifaceted applications

Nasir Sarwar et al.

Summary: Copper nanoparticles are of great interest due to their diverse applications, but their synthesis often involves toxic reducing agents. Green synthesis, such as biogenic one-step synthesis using cinnamon bark extract, is being investigated to address environmental concerns. Citric acid mediation can promote the reduction action of cinnamon and modify the surface morphology of the nanoparticles, leading to uniform spherical morphology with consistent surface texture. The synthesized nanoparticles showed high catalytic performance against mutagenic dyes and broad-spectrum disinfection properties, offering potential applications in medical textiles and personal protective equipment.

Synthesis, Chemical-Physical Characterization, and Biomedical Applications of Functional Gold Nanoparticles: A Review

Ileana Ielo et al.

Summary: Gold nanoparticles exhibit excellent stability and biocompatibility, making them ideal candidates for medical and biological applications. Various synthetic methods, such as Turkevich synthesis, reduction with NaBH4, seeding growth, ascorbic acid-based, green synthesis, and Brust-Schiffrin methods, have been used to enhance their stability and features. Functionalization of the AuNP surface has led to the formation of self-assembled monolayers using polymer coatings as capping agents bonded to the nanoparticles. Common chemical-physical characterization techniques are used to determine the size, shape, and surface coverage of AuNPs for their biomedical and biotechnology applications.

Green and cost-effective synthesis of copper nanoparticles by extracts of non-edible and waste plant materials from Vaccinium species: Characterization and antimicrobial activity

Emilia Benassai et al.

Summary: In this study, copper nanoparticles (Cu-NPs) were synthesized using aqueous extracts from bilberry and false bilberry fruits, with a decrease in polyphenol concentration indicating active participation in the formation of Cu-NPs. The antimicrobial activity of Cu-NPs was higher compared to cupric ion solutions and berry extracts, especially those derived from bilberry waste residues, showing a wide spectrum of action against bacteria and fungi. This green synthesis of Cu-NPs can be considered as a cost-effective sanitization tool.

Synthesis of copper and copper oxide nanoparticles with different morphologies using aniline as reducing agent

Ehsan Rostami-Tapeh-Esmaeil et al.

Summary: Copper nanoparticles (CuNPs) were synthesized by chemical reduction of CuSO4.5H2O salt in the presence of aniline with various conditions studied. Choosing ethylene glycol as the reaction media reduced copper oxide formation and increased the specific surface area (SSA) of CuNPs, while the presence of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) led to the formation of spherical particles.
