Transparent Electrode Techniques for Semitransparent and Tandem Perovskite Solar Cells

Helen Hejin Park

Summary: Inorganic-organic halide perovskite solar cells are highly attractive for their high-efficiency, tunable bandgap, low-cost, and easy fabrication, especially for tandem applications. Techniques for high near-infrared transparency in semitransparent perovskite solar cells are crucial for efficient light transmission to bottom cells in tandem applications. This review focuses on the status, progress, transparent electrode approaches, and future directions and challenges in perovskite-based tandem solar cells.

Copper Oxide Buffer Layers by Pulsed-Chemical Vapor Deposition for Semitransparent Perovskite Solar Cells

Taeyong Eom et al.

Summary: Thermal evaporation is a common method for depositing sputter buffer materials in semitransparent perovskite solar cells, but the limited selection and control of materials properties lead to inefficiency. Incorporating copper oxide into perovskite solar cells as a sputter buffer layer through pulsed-chemical vapor deposition can maintain stable efficiency for over 150 hours.

Transparent Electrodes with Enhanced Infrared Transmittance for Semitransparent and Four-Terminal Tandem Perovskite Solar Cells

Hyunmin Jung et al.

Summary: This report discusses indium oxide doped with titanium and tantulum as a high near-infrared transparent electrode potentially replacing traditional indium tin oxide electrodes. Utilizing this electrode in semitransparent perovskite devices can improve device performance by reducing defect sites and modifying energy alignment. Additionally, incorporating this indium oxide-based electrode in both top and bottom electrodes of semitransparent perovskite solar cells can enhance photocurrent response and performance in tandem configurations.

Lessons learned from spiro-OMeTAD and PTAA in perovskite solar cells

Florine M. Rombach et al.

Summary: Organic semiconductors are crucial in thin-film electronic devices, especially as hole transport layers (HTLs) in perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Spiro-OMeTAD and PTAA have been the leading materials for high efficiency HTLs, with research on their properties contributing to a better understanding of their success mechanisms. This review provides key insights into the electronic and morphological properties, doping strategies, and degradation pathways of spiro-OMeTAD and PTAA, guiding the development of future HTL materials with improved stability and efficiency for PSCs.
