Design of Robust Lubricant-Infused Surfaces for Anti-Corrosion

Summary: This study examines the effect of a specially designed bottle-shaped nanopore on the retentivity and anti-corrosion efficacy of lubricant oil on surfaces. The results show that the bottle-shaped pore helps to immobilize the oil and enhance its robustness and anti-corrosion properties. The increased oil capacity in the pore also allows for effective coverage of the underlying metallic surface at cracks, improving damage tolerance and self-healing capability. The use of higher viscosity oil further enhances these benefits and increases anti-corrosion efficacy.

Optical engineering of nanoporous photonic crystals by Gaussian-Like pulse anodization

Summary: A new class of nanoporous anodic alumina photonic crystals (NAA-PCs) are optically engineered by four distinct forms of Gaussian-like pulse anodization (GLPA), allowing for precise tuning of their photonic stopbands (PSBs) across the UV-visible spectrum. Sensitivity of these PC structures to changes in their effective medium is determined by quantifying spectral shifts in their characteristic PSB upon infiltration with solutions of varying refractive index. These advancements provide opportunities for future developments of high-quality NAA-PCs with broad applicability in various photonic technologies.

Integrated hetero-nanoelectrodes for plasmon-enhanced electrocatalysis of hydrogen evolution

Summary: The study focuses on the construction of hierarchical hetero-nanostructures integrating gold nanorods and molybdenum disulfide quantum sheets in highly ordered arrays, demonstrating exciting electrocatalytic performances towards hydrogen evolution reaction. Both plasmon-induced hot-electron injection and plasmonic scattering/reabsorption mechanisms play determining roles in enhancing the electrocatalytic performances. The integrated hetero-nanoelectrodes exhibit broadband photoresponses in the visible range, showing superiority compared to random systems in solar energy conversion and utilization.

Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy With Electrodeposited Copper Ultramicro-Wires With/Without Silver Nanostars Decoration

Summary: The electrochemical preparation of arrays of copper ultramicrowires was revisited to obtain efficient substrates for surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy. Different materials for electrodeposition were compared, and optimal deposition parameters were determined. The CuUW substrates displayed good SERS properties, with higher Raman enhancement achieved when decorated with silver nanostars.
