Adsorption of Cr(VI) using α-Fe2O3 coated hydroxy magnesium silicate (HMS): isotherm, thermodynamic and kinetic study

Mutairah Shaker Alshammari et al.

Summary: In this study, alpha-Fe2O3/HMS composite was prepared by the coprecipitation method and used for the sorption of Cr(VI). The results showed that the adsorption of Cr(VI) by the composite followed the pseudo-second-order kinetic model, and the Freundlich isotherm was more suitable than the Langmuir isotherm. The adsorption process was exothermic, spontaneous, and accompanied by an increase in system randomness. The maximum adsorption capacity was 10.75 mg/g obtained at a pH of 2.

Horizontal Distribution of Cadmium in Urban Constructed Wetlands: A Case Study

Zheng Zeng et al.

Summary: The study used a radioactive distribution approach to investigate the horizontal advection of cadmium in an urban constructed wetland and assess its removal efficacy. Factors affecting the horizontal distribution of Cd were examined, revealing varying Cd removal efficiency among different plant species, with the constructed wetland efficiently removing a portion of Cd due to sediment sorption, bacterial uptake, and water advection dilution.

Cadmium Uptake, In Vivo Metastasis and Subcellular Environmental Response of Five Wetland Plants Using DFT Method

Zheng Zeng et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effect of Cd2+ on the absorption of Ca2+ and Fe2+ by the roots of five wetland plants and the toxic mechanism of cadmium on the subcellular structure. Results showed that most wetland plants exhibited tolerance to cadmium, except for Phragmites communis, with Cd2+ having no significant inhibitory effect on the absorption of Ca2+ and Fe2+. Cadmium was found to impact the properties of compounds in the subcellular structure and induce physiological toxicity.
