Gear root bending strength: statistical treatment of Single Tooth Bending Fatigue tests results Conference Proceedings

Luca Bonaiti et al.

Summary: Gear tooth failure due to tooth root bending fatigue is one of the most dangerous failure modes in gears, precise definition of gear bending fatigue strength is crucial for calculating gear component service life, Maximum Likelihood Estimation can be used to estimate the S-N curve from experimental points, symmetrical configuration STBF test can consider the survival of a single tooth.

Gear Root Bending Strength: A Comparison Between Single Tooth Bending Fatigue Tests and Meshing Gears

Luca Bonaiti et al.

Summary: Gear tooth breakage due to bending fatigue is a dangerous failure mode, and the precise definition of tooth bending strength is crucial in gear design. Single tooth bending fatigue tests are commonly used to study this failure mode, but when designing gear sets, the actual loading conditions and strength of meshing gears must be taken into consideration.

Bending Fatigue Behavior of 17-4 PH Gears Produced by Additive Manufacturing

Franco Concli et al.

Summary: The introduction of Additive Manufacturing is changing the way components and machines are designed and manufactured. This study presents experimental results on gear samples made with 17-4 PH produced via Laser Powder Bed Fusion, determining fatigue limits using statistical approaches and comparing data with ISO standards. Additional SEM analyses were conducted to investigate material behavior and possible defects in tested gears.

Gear Root Bending Strength: A New Multiaxial Approach to Translate the Results of Single Tooth Bending Fatigue Tests to Meshing Gears

Franco Concli et al.

Summary: A method for calculating fkorr using numerical simulations with a multiaxial fatigue criterion was proposed in this study. It was found that fkorr varies with gear geometrical characteristics, material fatigue strength, and load ratio set in STBF tests. Additionally, fkorr was observed to increase with the ratio between the bending and torsional fatigue limits, and have an effect on determining the critical point where fracture nucleates.
