Attributing Blame to Robots: I. The Influence of Robot Autonomy

Summary: The study examined how humans attribute blame to humans, nonautonomous robots, autonomous robots, or environmental factors for errors. It found that humans tend to attribute more blame to autonomous robots than to nonautonomous robots, suggesting that the perceived degree of robots as social actors depends on their autonomy level.
