Application of Genomic Selection at the Early Stage of Breeding Pipeline in Tropical Maize

Yoseph Beyene et al.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate genomic selection prediction scenarios for grain yield and agronomic traits of tropical maize, based on multi-year empirical data for designing a GS-based strategy at the early stages of the breeding pipeline. By combining multiple years of data for training, the prediction accuracy can be increased, leading to significant resource savings in maize breeding programs.

Introgression of Maize Diversity for Drought Tolerance: Subtropical Maize Landraces as Source of New Positive Variants

Pedro Augusto Medeiros Barbosa et al.

Summary: This study identified chromosomal regions associated with a drought tolerance index in maize through Genome-Wide Association Study (GWAS). The findings suggest that alleles from landraces can provide a slightly higher yield under drought conditions, indicating the potential for using landraces in breeding programs to improve maize for drought tolerance.
