Film Electrochemiluminescence Controlled by Interfacial Reactions Along with Aggregation-, Matrix-Coordination-, and Crystallization-Induced Emissions

Jonathan R. Adsetts et al.

Summary: The utility of electrochemiluminescence (ECL) in analysis has been demonstrated through its application in detecting novel luminophores and immunoassays. Recent advances in film ECL enhancements controlled by interfacial reactions are discussed, with potential applications in biological and medical diagnosis. Future analyses of these enhancements will contribute to the development of next generation luminophores for optoelectronic and sensing applications.

Efficient Near-Infrared Electrochemiluminescence from Au18 Nanoclusters

Mahdi Hesari et al.

Summary: This study reports the bright near-infrared electrochemiluminescence (NIR-ECL) of Au-18 nanoclusters with a high ECL efficiency of 5.5. The overlapping oxidation potentials of Au-18(0) and co-reactant tri-n-propylamine, exposed facets of Au-18(0) gold core, and electrocatalytic loops contribute to this unprecedentedly high efficiency, potentially expanding the applications of gold nanoclusters in efficient NIR-ECL.

Aggregation-Induced Modulation of the Optoelectronic Properties of Carbon Dots and Removal of Cd2+ Ions with Sustainable Use in Photocurrent Generation

Subir Paul et al.

Summary: This study reports the room-temperature fabrication of carbon dots (C-dots) using UV light irradiation within 15 minutes, overcoming their insolubility in organic solvents by employing a phase-transfer strategy. The aggregates of C-dots in organic solvents exhibit considerable current conductivity as compared to C-dots in aqueous solution, while C-dots aggregates do not show any photocurrent response. The C-dots-metal hybrid obtained by removing toxic Cd2+ ions from contaminated water in organic medium shows a very good photoresponsive nature with significant photogain, suggesting sustainable utilization of the removed cadmium ions for photocurrent generation.

Monitoring single Au38 nanocluster reactions via electrochemiluminescence

Mahdi Hesari et al.

Summary: The study reported for the first time single Au-38 nanocluster reaction events of highly efficient electrochemiluminescence (ECL) with tri-n-propylamine radicals as a reductive co-reactant at the surface of an ultramicroelectrode (UME). Statistical analyses of individual reactions confirm stochastic single ones influenced by the applied potential.
