Qixing Xia et al.

Summary: This study develops a dendritic Fe-Cu bimetallic catalyst (E100) that addresses the challenge of achieving desirable activity and reusability in heterogeneous Fenton-like catalysts for environmental remediation. Compared to single metal catalysts, E100 demonstrates superior performance in the degradation of phenol, with Fe species being the dominant Fenton-like active centers under acidic pH and Cu species under neutral pH. The presence of a Cu/Fe3O4 shell accelerates Cu-based Fenton-like reactions through galvanic micro-cells effects, while the FeCu core further enhances Fe-based Fenton-like reactions. Overall, E100 exhibits superior catalytic activity and reusability, providing new insights for fabricating efficient Fenton-like catalysts.

Sustainable approaches to the Fenton process for wastewater treatment: A review

Mohd Salim Mahtab et al.

Summary: The rapid growth of population and industrialization has led to an increase in wastewater generation, posing challenges for proper treatment and disposal. Traditional methods are inefficient in treating the various difficult-to-degrade compounds present in wastewater, leading to the exploration of advanced oxidation processes (AOPs). However, most AOPs have limitations, including the classical Fenton process (CFP) which faces issues such as low pH requirements, high chemical dosage, and large sludge production. Strategies such as process optimization, low Fe2+ dosage treatment, stepwise dosing of reagents, and sludge reuse systems are being considered to overcome these limitations and make wastewater treatment cost-effective and environmentally friendly, aligning with the principles of reduce, reuse, and recycle.
