Interfacial synergistic catalysis over Ni nanoparticles encapsulated in mesoporous ceria for CO2 methanation

Plaifa Hongmanorom et al.

Summary: An ordered mesoporous ceria, mpCeO(2), was synthesized using nanocasting, followed by strong electrostatic adsorption to prepare Ni nanoparticles encapsulated in mpCeO(2) for CO2 methanation. The Ni/mpCeO(2) catalyst showed significantly improved activity and selectivity compared to conventional CeO2-supported Ni catalyst, with the encapsulated structure and highly dispersed Ni nanoparticles playing key roles. Additionally, the mesoporous structure inhibited metal sintering, leading to excellent stability of the catalyst.

Effect of Na and K impurities on the performance of Ni/CeZrOx catalysts in DBD plasma-catalytic CO2 methanation

Maria Mikhail et al.

Summary: In this study, the effects of alkali metal (Na and K) on the physicochemical and catalytic behavior of Ni/CeZrOx catalysts during non-thermal plasma-assisted CO2 methanation were investigated. The presence of Na and K impurities resulted in decreased CO2 conversions, lower selectivity to CH4 and increased power consumption. The interaction with both the support and the active phase led to a more difficult reduction of the Ce-species, affecting the overall catalytic performance. Higher dielectric constant contributed to increased energy dissipation and favored the strong ionization of the gas contained in the reactor gap, resulting in CO formation.

Enhanced performance and selectivity of CO2 methanation over phyllosilicate structure derived Ni-Mg/SBA-15 catalysts

Plaifa Hongmanorom et al.

Summary: Ni and Ni-Mg phyllosilicate mesoporous SBA-15 catalysts prepared via ammonia evaporation (AE) method exhibit superior catalytic performance in CO2 methanation compared to catalysts prepared via wetness impregnation (WI) method, due to enhanced metal-support interaction and weakly basic sites provided by surface hydroxyl groups. Incorporation of Mg into phyllosilicate structure increases medium basic sites, promoting monodentate formate formation and improving CO2 methanation activity. Additionally, the turnover frequency of CO2 conversion is correlated with the concentration of basic sites, and the strong metal-support interaction and confinement effect of SBA-15 can suppress metal sintering, ensuring good stability.
