The Role of H+- and Cu+-Sites for N2O Formation during NH3-SCR over Cu-CHA

Yingxin Feng et al.

Summary: The formation of N2O over CHA and Cu-CHA zeolite catalysts during NH3-SCR is found to be connected with NO + NH3 reaction over Cu-sites, rather than direct NH4NO3 decomposition. This finding provides an explanation for the experimentally observed low-temperature N2O formation and the relation between Cu loading and N2O formation. These proposed mechanisms offer strategies to enhance the selectivity to N-2 during NH3-SCR.

Summary: The study reveals that isolated Cu cations are the active sites for C3H6-SCR, while the presence of CuO species enhances the C3H6 activation ability of the catalysts. Tuning the proportion of various copper species can tailor the active temperature window for hydrocarbons-selective catalytic reduction (HC-SCR) reactions, providing new insights into designing highly efficient Cu-based zeolite catalysts.

Selective Catalytic Reduction of Nitrogen Oxides by Hydrocarbons in an Excess of Oxygen

V. A. Sadykov et al.

Summary: This study analyzes the results of research on the selective catalytic reduction of nitrogen oxides by hydrocarbons in the presence of an excess of oxygen, showing key steps in the reaction mechanism and characteristics. By altering transition metal cations, coordination environments, clustering levels, and support basicity, it is possible to improve the activity, selectivity, and stability of catalysts for desirable reactions. Experimentation with copper, cobalt, nickel, and iron cations on various supports demonstrates the efficacy of these modifications in creating efficient catalysts.

Plasma-enhanced low temperature NH3-SCR of NOx over a Cu-Mn/SAPO-34 catalyst under oxygen-rich conditions

Boqiong Jiang et al.

Summary: In this work, a two-stage post-plasma-catalytic configuration was used to investigate the dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma-enhanced NH3-selective catalytic reduction (NH3-SCR) of NOx over a Cu-Mn/SAPO-34 catalyst at low temperatures and oxygen-rich conditions. The results showed high NOx removal and N2 selectivity without NH3 slip or by-product formation, with stable performance over multiple catalyst regeneration cycles. This work successfully showcased a promising low-temperature plasma-catalytic solution for effective NH3-SCR of NOx.

N2O Formation Mechanism During Low-Temperature NH3-SCR over Cu-SSZ-13 Catalysts with Different Cu Loadings

Dongwei Yao et al.

Summary: The formation and decomposition mechanisms of NH4NO3 over Cu-SSZ-13 with different Cu loadings were investigated through in situ DRIFTS studies. Higher Cu content catalysts showed stronger oxidative ability, leading to easier formation of NH4NO3 and subsequently N2O. The presence of NO2 led to the formation of NH4NO3 through reaction with NH3, with Cu(OH)+ playing a role in facilitating the reaction between NH4NO3 and NO.
