Genome-wide microRNA expression analysis in human placenta reveals sex-specific patterns: an ENVIRONAGE birth cohort study

Maria Tsamou et al.

Summary: The study revealed gender-specific differences in miRNA expression in human placental tissue of newborns, with significantly different miRNA profiles between girls and boys. Furthermore, 14 miRNA-mRNA interactions were identified as sex-specific, potentially influencing physiological conditions in early or later life. These findings suggest that sex-specific molecular processes may play a role in disease susceptibility in later life.
