Flow and Drop Transport Along Liquid-Infused Surfaces

Steffen Hardt et al.

Summary: This review article focuses on the fluid mechanics properties of liquid-infused surfaces (LISs) and the behavior of drops on such surfaces. By designing the wettability and topography of LIS, low-friction drop motion can be achieved.

Depletion of the Lubricant from Lubricant-Infused Surfaces due to an Air/Water Interface

Sam Peppou-Chapman et al.

Summary: The study investigates how an air/water interface depletes lubricant from lubricant-infused surfaces (LIS) by varying the chemistry of both the lubricant and the substrate, finding that a thick layer of excess lubricant is always removed in just one dip regardless of wettability. It also reveals that lubricants that do not fully spread on the substrate deplete faster due to dewetting into droplets, and lubricants that spread onto the air/water interface are more susceptible to depletion. Additionally, the research shows that dynamic contact angles on surfaces tethered with liquidlike poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) chains remain constant over repeated immersions, suggesting low hysteresis is unlikely due to unbound polymer.

3D monitoring of the surface slippage effect on micro-particle sedimentation by digital holographic microscopy

Majid Panahi et al.

Summary: This study investigates the slippage effect on micro-particle sedimentation near a flat wall using digital holographic microscopy. Through analysis of 3D trajectories and velocities of multiple sedimenting micro-particles, it is found that proximity to flat walls with higher slip lengths causes faster sedimentation. The experimental findings are supported by a theoretical model considering both particle proximity and interaction with walls of different hydrophobicity in hydrodynamic forces.
