Chemokines gene expression in the prefrontal cortex of depressed suicide victims and normal control subjects

Ghanshyam N. Pandey et al.

Summary: Abnormalities in neuroinflammation are involved in the pathogenesis of depression and suicide, with increased levels of cytokines and chemokines observed in both serum and postmortem brain samples of affected individuals. Decreased mRNA expression of certain chemokines in the prefrontal cortex of depressed suicidal subjects may affect important CNS functions, potentially contributing to the pathophysiology of depression.

Type 1 interferon mediates chronic stress-induced neuroinflammation and behavioral deficits via complement component 3-dependent pathway

Ashutosh Tripathi et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated that chronic stress induces a significant increase in serum IFN beta levels in mice, and systemic blockade of IFN-I signaling alleviates stress-induced neuroinflammation and behavioral abnormalities. It also revealed the mediating role of C3 in these processes and found a significant increase in IFN-I stimulated genes in the prefrontal cortex of depressed suicide subjects with correlation to inflammatory markers.
