Development of ensemble learning models to evaluate the strength of coal-grout materials

Yuantian Sun et al.

Summary: This study introduced the jet grouting technique to improve the self-supporting ability of coal mass and analyzed the strength of JG composite by studying the UCS evolution patterns. The results showed that chemical grout composite has higher short-term strength, while cement grout composite achieves more stable long-term strength. Models with adjusted parameters can achieve high prediction accuracy, highlighting the importance of grout type and curing time consideration.

Effect of wetting-drying cycle on hydraulic and mechanical properties of cemented paste backfill of the recycled solid wastes

Dan Ma et al.

Summary: The study shows that with increasing wetting-drying cycles, the porosity and permeability of CPB samples increase, with those having smaller particle size distribution and cementing strength being more sensitive. The uniaxial compressive strength and elastic modulus of CPB samples deteriorate during wetting-drying cycles, especially for those with smaller particle size distribution and cementing strength. The deterioration process of mechanical properties of CPB samples due to wetting-drying cycles can be divided into initial deterioration and re-deterioration stages, with the periodic destruction of the cemented structures verified through microstructure analysis.

Analytical studying the axial performance of fully encapsulated rock bolts

Jianhang Chen et al.

Summary: A theoretical solution was proposed to investigate the performance of fully encapsulated rock bolts, which included simulating the coupling and decoupling behavior of the B/G interface and confirming the feasibility through physical experiments. The advantage of this theoretical model lies in the direct acquisition of all input parameters from experimental pullout scenarios.

Reutilization of gangue wastes in underground backfilling mining: Overburden aquifer protection

Dan Ma et al.

Summary: Gangue backfilling mining (GBM) can effectively alleviate gangue pollution and protect overburden aquifers. The hydraulic properties and deformation behaviors of granular gangues were studied, showing that these properties vary with the original grain size grade and stress rate. An improved model based on fractal dimension was found to have better accuracy in predicting permeability evolution compared to the traditional Kruger model.

New Insights of Grouting in Coal Mass: From Small-Scale Experiments to Microstructures

Yuantian Sun et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the quality improvement of coal and grouted coal specimens through a series of direct shear tests, and found that the strength and stiffness of grouted coal were significantly improved with the increase of grout column diameter. Linear regression models were established for predicting mechanical parameters and three failure models associated with coal and grouted coal specimens were revealed. This research can provide a basic evaluation and guideline for the parametric design of cement pre-grouting applications in soft coal mass.

Studying the performance of fully encapsulated rock bolts with modified structural elements

Jianhang Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, a two-stage shear coupling model was used to simulate the bonding performance of the interface between rock bolts and grout material. The modified cableSELs in FLAC3D showed that the load transfer capacity of rock bolts increased significantly with the diameter of the bolt. The performance of the rock bolting system was observed to change from ductile behavior to brittle behavior as the bolt diameter increased.
