Sugey de Jesus Lopez Perez et al.

Summary: This article explores the role of environmental taxation in addressing environmental issues and promoting sustainability in Mexico since 2014. It critically analyzes the weak environmental impact of certain environmental taxes, such as the carbon and pesticide taxes introduced in 2014, and examines the evolution of tax incentives and expenditures in terms of their effects on the environment. Recommendations are made for long-term structural changes in the Mexican tax system and short to medium-term changes in tax expenditure to promote a more sustainable economy.
