Multi-criteria spatial-based modelling for optimal alignment of roadway by-passes in the Tlokweng planning area, Botswana

Milan Sekulic et al.

Summary: This study applied Spatial Multi-Criteria Evaluation and the least cost path analysis to find the optimal bypass road alignment in the Tlokweng Planning Area in Botswana. One-At-a-Time sensitivity analysis and the statistical test for zero proportion were used to investigate the robustness of the entire model. Four alternative bypass roads were produced, prioritizing economic, environmental, and social suitability as well as trade-offs between different groups. The results indicated that the social alternative performed the best. Sensitivity analysis and statistical test for zero proportion identified four sensitive criteria.

Empirically Based Rainfall Threshold for Landslides Occurrence in Peninsular Malaysia

Abdul Muaz Abu Mansor Maturidi et al.

Summary: Empirical rainfall thresholds for shallow landslide forecasting in Peninsular Malaysia were proposed based on 37 landslide-triggering rainfall events from 1993 to 2018. Two rainfall thresholds, (I-mean-D) and (I-max-D), were established through practical methods for predicting shallow landslides in the region. These thresholds outperformed those proposed by other studies worldwide, with (I-max-D) showing more credibility in representing the rainfall-induced shallow landslide threshold specifically for Peninsular Malaysia.
