Impact of the VAT reduction policy on local fiscal pressure in China in light of the COVID-19 pandemic: A measurement based on a computable general equilibrium model

Summary: The reduction of value added tax (VAT) is an important tool for cultivating new driving forces for economic development and has a notable impact on local fiscal pressure. Using a CGE model, this study estimated the impact of VAT reduction policy on local fiscal pressure in China during the COVID-19 pandemic. The results showed an increase in local fiscal pressure from 0.342 to 0.435, indicating the need for optimizing tax structure to alleviate local fiscal pressure.
