Technological solutions for long-term storage of partially used nuclear waste: A critical review

Tonni Agustiono Kurniawan et al.

Summary: Nuclear power is a sustainable energy option, but it generates radioactive waste during electricity production. Various technologies, including vitrification, partitioning and transmutation, pyro-processing, and deep geological repository, are reviewed for long-term storage of partially used nuclear fuel. While deep geological repository may be convenient and economical in the short-term, complete recycling of nuclear waste is considered the best option in the long-term.

A societal transition of MSW management in Xiamen (China) toward a circular economy through integrated waste recycling and technological digitization

Tonni Agustiono Kurniawan et al.

Summary: Xiamen is currently facing challenges in municipal solid waste management, such as lack of a complete garbage sorting and recycling system, absence of waste segregation between organic and dry waste at source, and incomplete information about the generated waste. Solutions involve enhancing source separation, improving recycling systems, legislation, terminal disposal facilities, incorporating digitization, and establishing standards for recycled products. Learning from the effectiveness of Hong Kong's waste management system is crucial for Xiamen's future MSWM development.
