Plant extracts in agriculture and their applications in the treatment of seeds

Ricardo da Silva Carvalho et al.

Summary: The use of toxic substances in agriculture has harmful effects, leading to the development of alternative solutions using plant extracts. This systematic review examines the research and scientific dissemination of plant extracts in agriculture, particularly in seed applications. The study finds that plant extracts show potential in agriculture, with a high number of publications in recent years, especially in Brazil. Control of phytopathogenic microorganisms, insect control, biostimulant effect, resistance induction, and herbicide effect are the main themes explored. Direct application of plant extracts focuses on plants and seeds, specifically in controlling phytopathogenic organisms and promoting growth.

Non-Thermal Plasmas Affect Plant Growth and DNA Methylation Patterns in Glycine max

M. C. Perez-Piza et al.

Summary: Non-thermal plasmas (NTP) show promise as a technology for seed treatment, with treated soybean seeds exhibiting superior growth compared to untreated seeds. Epigenetic changes induced by NTP treatments were observed, with both demethylation and methylation changes at specific loci potentially contributing to the phenotypic differences observed.

Effects of non-thermal plasma technology on Diaporthe longicolla cultures and mechanisms involved

Maria C. Perez-Piza et al.

Summary: Exposure of D. longicolla colonies to NTP severely compromised fungal biology, with negative effects on fungal growth, biomass, and colony appearance. Ozone production during treatment and lipid peroxidation of fungal cell membranes appeared to be involved in the observed effects. Asexual spores (conidia) of the fungi were also highly susceptible to NTP exposure.

Experimental Investigation into the Influence of Plasma Technology on Seed Surface Wettability

Pavel Kriz et al.

Summary: The study found that atmospheric plasma discharge had little effect on improving seed wettability, while low-pressure microwave plasma discharge showed a more efficient impact, especially on pea seeds. These results indicate that LPMD may be an effective alternative for enhancing seed water intake, but its effectiveness depends on seed type and processing parameters.
