A call for reducing tourism risk to environmental hazards in the Himalaya

A. D. Ziegler et al.

Summary: As mountain tourism continues to expand, it is important to improve disaster risk management to ensure the safety of tourists and industry workers, protect infrastructure, and support local economies. The promotion of safe and sustainable tourism is not synchronized with the increasing number of inbound tourists who are prone to environmental hazards, mainly due to commercialization. Factors contributing to this situation include increased mobility of tourists, lack of regulations, climate change impacts, and limited disaster response capabilities. To address this complex situation, a dynamic system approach is needed, including strong leadership, increased regulation, and enhanced professionalism through training.

Adaptation to climate change induced water stress in major glacierized mountain regions

Anubha Aggarwal et al.

Summary: Mountains are a critical source of water, but they are facing water stress due to cryospheric and hydrological changes. Sectors such as agriculture, tourism, hydropower, and health and safety are among the most affected by these changes. Successful adaptation measures are limited by stakeholder capacities, collaboration, financial resources, policies, and development.

An informal institution comparative study of occupational safety knowledge sharing via French and English Tweets: languaculture, weak-strong ties and AI sentiment perspectives

Lingxi Song et al.

Summary: This study analyzed English and French tweets about occupational safety using NodeXL and MeaningCloud. The findings suggest that English and French Twitter users interested in this topic have limited interactions. Furthermore, Twitter users have a low tendency to reach people outside their own groups and do not effectively utilize weak ties to increase their impact. Sentiment analysis revealed that negative tweets have a stronger impact among French users, while positive tweets have more influence among English users.

Jose Luis Ruiz-Real et al.

Summary: This research summarizes the state of the art of rural tourism and development, identifies research trends, and proposes future research directions. The study finds that research on rural tourism mainly focuses on Spain, Romania, and China, while the most prolific authors are from Portugal, China, the United Kingdom, and the United States. There is a notable lack of studies on countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America, mainly due to political and religious factors. Rural tourism is also an important and emergent sector, particularly in countries like Romania and China.

Community eco-tourism in rural Peru: Resilience and adaptive capacities to the Covid-19 pandemic and climate change

Edwin Gabriel-Campos et al.

Summary: This study examines community responses and resilience to COVID-19 and climate change in the case of Quebrada Verde, a rural community in Peru. The community's preparedness is unbalanced towards the two threats, with more tools developed for coping with COVID-19 than climate change. Efforts are needed to strengthen resilience towards climate change and to bridge the gap in relationships with other local organizations in order to sustain the wider social network and enhance risk management strategies.
