ON INFORMATION GAIN, KULLBACK-LEIBLER DIVERGENCE, ENTROPY PRODUCTION AND THE INVOLUTION KERNEL

Artur O. Lopes et al.

Summary: This article introduces the application of Kullback-Leibler divergence in the concept of entropy in information theory and machine learning, and proposes an appropriate definition of entropy based on a priori probability kernel and probability. Using this concept, a definition of information gain for general measurable spaces is obtained. In addition, the extension of specific information gain and dynamical entropy production in the thermodynamic formalism model is discussed, and how to determine the symmetry of potential using involution kernel and dual potential is introduced.

Liouville geometry of classical thermodynamics

Arjan van der Schaft

Summary: The contact-geometric formulation of classical thermodynamics distinguishes between the energy and entropy representation, which can be resolved by using homogeneous coordinates for the intensive variables. This leads to a geometric formulation on the cotangent bundle of the manifold of extensive variables, where all geometric objects are homogeneous in the cotangent variables. The resulting geometry based on the Liouville form is studied in depth, including additional homogeneity with respect to the extensive variables within the same geometric framework.
